Nikon’s Small World Competition 2025 is accepting entries from individuals from all over the world who have an interest in photomicrography (microscopy and photography through microscope). This international contest also offers a video competition entitled ‘Small World In Motion’ which includes any video or digital time-lapse photography made through the microscope. The Nikon Photo Competition was launched in 1975 to acknowledge and appreciate the work of people involved with photography through the light microscope. This international photography and videography competition is a leading platform for photomicrographers who come from wide range of scientific areas.
A panel of judges will select 20 finalists in the still images category and 5 finalists in the digital video category based on creativity, originality, informational content, technical proficiency, and artistic & visual impact. Judges may decide to give separate Honorable Mention and Images of Distinction awards to some entrants of this global photography competition. Nikon Small World Photomicrography and Nikon Small World in Motion are both separate contests which will have separate prizes. Entrants can submit up to 3 still images and 3 movies in the competition and it is possible to win both the contests.
Nikon photo competition welcomes wide range of subject matter and different types of light microscopy techniques are acceptable like phase contrast, polarized light, fluorescence, interference contrast, dark field, confocal, deconvolution, and mixed techniques. Every year, the work of top 20 prize-winners is displayed at multiple museums and science centers throughout the United States and Canada. The images of winners have also been featured on the covers of renowned scientific and industrial journals. Eligibility Criteria for Nikon Small World Competition 2025:
- Participants should be at least 18 years old.
- Participants should not be employees of Nikon, their agencies, or affiliates.
- Participants should not be linked to any competing microscope or camera manufacturers.
- Entries of Images must be submitted in .jpeg, .png, .psd, or .tiff format in high quality resolution.
- Entry images/videos must not be AI generated.
- Entry images/videos should be taken by using a light microscope. Images that are taken with an electron or any other microscope that does not capture imagery using optical light technology will not be accepted.
- Macro photography is not allowed.
- Images/videos that have already won any award or photomicrography competition are not eligible.
- All the information submitted should be in English language.
- The submission entries should not violate anyone’s rights.
- The submission entries should not criticize the sponsor, administrator or any other person or entity.
- The submission entries should not include brand names, logos, trademarks, web addresses, names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses.
- Entries must be free from viruses, Trojan horses, worms, bots, spyware or any other computer code.
- Entries must not include material that is inappropriate, indecent, discriminatory, obscene, hateful, tortious, defamatory, or unlawful.
- Each entrant can upload and submit up to three images and three videos.
- Entrants must own the rights and authority to submit the entries.
Documents required for Nikon Photo Competition:
- The Registration Information and Images/Videos are necessarily required to enter the Competition and are collectively called as your “Submission.”
- Up to 3 still images.
- Up to 3 videos.
How to apply for Nikon Small World Competition 2025:
- Applicants must follow the instructions to complete the competition entry form.
- Fill in your name, phone number, email address, home address, country name, school, institution or organization’s name that the applicant is affiliated with, and its address also.
- Entrants have to mention the type, make and model of the equipment used to capture the photographs or videos submitted for this competition.
- Entrants should write a description of each entry submitted.
- Answer the registration information asked by Sponsor.
- Upload up to three photomicrographic digital images/digital videos taken by you.
- Read and show your agreement to the official rules of the competition by checking the box on the form.
- Submit the entry form along with all the registration information and the images/videos.
